What changes when you finally understand all 12 meridians

You've already seen what one meridian can do.

The Pericardium โ€” that fibrous, ropey channel that runs straight down the centre of the forearm โ€” and suddenly you understood why certain clients stay guarded, why the tissue feels the way it does, why the needle needs to go in a particular way with a particular energy behind it.

That wasn't mystical. That was anatomy meeting clinical logic.

Now multiply that by twelve.

ยท ยท ยท

There's a moment TJ sees in almost every practitioner he trains. They start to understand a meridian properly โ€” not the point locations, they already have those โ€” but the tissue, the pathology, the clinical logic that runs underneath it โ€” and something shifts.

One of his students described it as fog lifting from a landscape.

The Large Intestine pathway suddenly explained why the elbow pain connected to the digestive issue. The Liver channel explained the migraines that weren't responding to local treatment. The Bladder channel explained why the lower back kept coming back no matter what they did to it.

They weren't separate problems anymore. They were the same pattern, showing up in different places.

That's meridian literacy. And once you have it, you can't unknow it.

"TJ is the real deal โ€” he passes down the wisdom of TCM and Zen Shiatsu in the most accessible and articulate way, with great depth and a sense of humour."
โ€” Rebecca Berner, Massage Therapist

You're getting results. That's exactly the problem.

When treatments don't work, you know something's wrong and you go looking for the answer. But when treatments mostly work โ€” when you're getting decent outcomes, clients are coming back, the practice is ticking along โ€” there's no obvious signal that anything is missing.

So you keep doing what you're doing. You needle LI11 for the elbow. ST36 for the fatigue. LR3 for the stress. You run the protocols you were taught, and they work often enough that you don't stop to question the framework underneath them.

Here's what's actually happening in those sessions where it doesn't land:

You're working the points without working the channel.

You know where the points are. What you're missing is the clinical logic that explains why that point does what it does, what the tissue should feel like before you needle it, what response you're actually looking for, and what it means when you don't get it.

That's not a technique problem. It's a map problem. You're navigating without the full map.

The difference between knowing point locations and understanding meridians

Point locations tell you where to needle. Meridian understanding tells you what you're treating, why it's presenting the way it is, and what the tissue, the pathology, and the person in front of you are actually telling you.

It's the difference between reading individual words and understanding the sentence. Most practitioners were trained in the words. The sentence is what this course teaches.

About TJ Frank

TJ graduated from OCOM in 2005 and has spent twenty years in clinical acupuncture practice โ€” not teaching theory, working with actual clients, developing and refining a system that integrates acupuncture, shiatsu, and meridian theory into a coherent clinical approach.

For ten years he worked alongside Ram Dass in Maui. That time shaped something essential about how he teaches: the body is legible, if you know how to read it. The meridians are anatomical structures โ€” fibrous, palpable, real โ€” not mystical lines drawn on a diagram.

TJ teaches this system with clinical specificity and occasional irreverence. He'll tell you that PC3 is "a dink-dink and a whoa." He'll tell you the Triple Heater is your client's "f*** off energy" and that you can't force your way through it. He'll tell you the Pericardium is like the Buckingham Palace guards โ€” rigid, well-trained, and completely unimpressed by your credentials.

And then he'll show you exactly how to work with all of it.

What's in the course

12 modules. One per meridian. Each approximately 45 minutes. Pathway, pathology, key clinical points, what to expect from the needle, and what it means for the client in front of you.

Module 1

Lung

The channel that governs intake. Grief, boundary-setting, and respiratory presentations that don't resolve with local treatment.

Module 2

Large Intestine

Why tennis elbow is often a Large Intestine problem. The digestive-musculoskeletal connection most practitioners miss entirely.

Module 3

Stomach

Receiving and processing โ€” food, experience, anxiety. What happens when the rot-and-ripen function breaks down.

Module 4

Spleen

Fatigue, overthinking, and the presentations that look like a dozen different conditions until you see the Spleen pattern underneath.

Module 5

Heart

The emperor. Arrhythmia, insomnia, and the anxiety that doesn't respond to LR3. Treated carefully, indirectly, and with full understanding.

Module 6

Small Intestine

Separating pure from impure. Shoulder and neck tension patterns that trace back further than the local tissue.

Module 7

Bladder

The longest channel. Why lower back pain that doesn't respond to local treatment is often a Bladder channel problem.

Module 8

Kidney

Constitutional strength, fear patterns, reproductive health. The channel that underpins everything when results plateau.

Module 9

Pericardium

You've already been here. Full clinical picture โ€” needling approach, point combinations, and the emotional layer.

Module 10

Triple Heater

Your client's first line of defence. How to read it, work with it, and why addressing it before you go deeper changes every session.

Module 11

Gallbladder

Decision-making, lateral movement, and presentations that feel scattered until the Gallbladder pattern makes them coherent.

Module 12

Liver

The general. Vision, planning, smooth flow. Migraines, menstrual irregularities, the frustration that tightens everything downstream.

What this looks like in practice

TJ had a client โ€” single man, wanted to get married, wanted a family. Had been alone a long time. He came in and asked, almost literally: can you take off my heart protection?

His pericardium was locked. Classic presentation. Arms drawn in, no eye contact, body language that said I'm not letting you in before he'd even sat down.

TJ worked the channel for weeks. Shiatsu first โ€” stretching it, breathing it open. When he finally needled it โ€” PC3, REN17, CV14 โ€” the pericardium opened. Within a month the man had met someone. They got married. Had children.

The channel tightened again. It always does if the underlying pattern isn't addressed. But TJ had opened the gate โ€” and the man could walk through it. That's a Pericardium story. Every meridian has its own version.

Post-surgical cardiac clients coming in with chest pain and restricted movement after bypass โ€” PC3 for the pericarditis and recovery. Clients with tennis elbow that keeps coming back despite correct local treatment โ€” until you trace the Large Intestine pathway. Migraines that don't respond to anything โ€” until you follow the Liver channel and treat the cause, not the location of the pain.

These aren't anecdotes. They're what meridian literacy looks like in a clinical context.

A few questions worth answering

"I already know the point locations โ€” will this actually add anything?"
Point locations are the starting point, not the destination. This course is built specifically for practitioners who already know where the points are. What it adds is the clinical logic underneath them โ€” the tissue, the pathology, the reasoning that tells you why that point does what it does and what you're looking for when you needle it. If you've ever had a treatment that should have worked but didn't, this is usually what was missing.
"Is this TCM or dry needling?"
It's neither exactly โ€” and it's relevant to both. TJ teaches meridians as anatomical structures: gross muscle-tendon pathways you can palpate, trace, and work with using any needling approach. If you're a dry needling practitioner, this gives you the clinical map that explains why distal needling works. If you're trained in TCM, this deepens the system you already work in. The framework is practical and anatomical โ€” not style-dependent.
"How is this different from what I learned in school?"
Most practitioners coming to this course trained in dry needling or did a short workshop. That training gave you the points and the protocols. What it didn't give you was the meridian system underneath them โ€” the tissue, the pathology, the clinical reasoning that connects a point to a channel to a presentation. This course is what that training was pointing toward but didn't have time to cover. It's not a repeat of anything you've already done. It's the layer beneath it.
